Travel Insurance

As with any insurance, it can be difficult to find the right travel insurance.

You probably prefer to spend your money on a nice tour or adventure activity, rather than on an expensive travel insurance policy. The fact is, you need to have one.

Most Credit Card Companies and Airlines include travel insurance with their services. While this might cover the risks of a standard tourist staying in a resort hotel for a couple of weeks, it certainly is not the adequate cover for independent travellers. Most of these insurances have quite extensive exclusion lists, which means you may not be covered for the things you are most likely to do.

We did quite some research on available insurances suitable for independent travellers. We compared policies from many insurance companies and there is only one that really stands out: WorldNomads.

WorldNomads' insurance policy goes beyond standard medical and emergency cover. Their policy is specialised to cater for independent travellers and includes physiotherapist/chiropractor treatment; all but the most extreme adventure activities; theft or loss of bagage including cameras, ipods etc; dental treatment etc.. Another big advantage is that you can extend your travel insurance anytime online, which means you don't have to really know how long you are going to stay in Australia in the first place.

Based on our research and a comprehensive survey with more than 1000 independent travellers from many different countries, we can definitely recommend WorldNomads' insurance offering.

Feel free to do your own research. If you find another insurance that offers another good policy tailored for independent travellers, please let us know (info@bepacked.com.au). As we are independent, we are happy to include other recommendations as well.

Even if your budget is tight, saving on a good travel insurance is probably the worst thing you can do.
